New Malden, only 9.4 miles from Charing Cross, is a suburb of south-west London, England. It is mainly located within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, with a small part in the London Borough of Merton.
New Malden was once part of the historic county of Surrey and is situation close to Kingston upon Thames, Raynes Park, Surbiton, Tolworth, Wimbledon and Worcester Park.
New Malden has an interesting distinction in that it is home to the largest Korean community in Europe. Often overshadowed by nearby Kingston or Wimbledon, New Malden has many winning features of its own and is a very attractive residential area.
In terms of the property on offer, there are many semi-detached Victorian properties to be found in New Malden, including terraced homes. There are also many properties which date from the Twenties and Thirties.
New Malden is known for its good schools, affordable family houses, and good transport links into Central London. Trains from New Malden station run through Clapham Junction and Vauxhall, while the journey into London Waterloo takes 22 minutes. Other train stations in the local area include Norbiton and Motspur Park. The A3 road also runs through New Malden.
New Malden High Street is a 1 km-long high street.
As well as containing a variety of high street names, such as Boots, Wilko, Costa cafe, Pizza Express, Nandos and Mac Donalds, New Malden High Street is most notable for its many Korean shops and restaurants, due to New Malden having the largest population of South Koreans in Europe.
There are several other ethnic restaurants and shops in the High Street and nearby.
Waitrose opened their 131st branch in New Malden High Street, behind the War Memorial.
There is also a small Lidl off Badgon Road, near The Malden Centre – a Leisure complex with main and teaching swimming pools, gym, workout classes and kids’ sessions.
New Malden railway station is 9 miles 62 chains (15.7 km) south-west of London Waterloo.
