If you’re looking for events to brighten up your staycation summer, there are plenty of outdoor cinema showings close to Wimbledon to choose from.

Outdoor Cinema Wimbledon

The popular Luna Cinema will return to Wimbledon Park from Friday 30 July to Sunday 1 August. Take your pick of films, from the classic 80s nostalgia of Top Gun, to the sing-along version of family favourite, The Greatest Showman or the entertaining murder mystery, Knives Out.

For refreshments, visit the Luna Bar in partnership with beer brand Birra Moretti serving beer, Prosecco and soft drinks. Food options include Greek souvlaki wraps and Haagen-Dazs ice cream.

Just across from the All England tennis club, Wimbledon Park is a stunning venue for the shows, with its lake and woodlands all laid out by 18th century landscape designer Capability Brown. Gates open each night at 7.30pm with films starting at 9pm.

Additional Luna Cinema nights will take place during the summer and autumn in nearby Hampton Court Palace, Chiswick House, Wandsworth Park and Clapham Common with films including Romeo and Juliet, Grease, Dirty Dancing, Joker and Bohemian Rhapsody. Times vary – find out more and book on the Luna Cinema website.

If you prefer outdoor live theatre, another beautiful Wimbledon open space is the backdrop to an evening of Shakespeare, when Mayhem theatre performs The Tempest in Cannizaro Park. This is the 10th year the company has delighted audiences with its interpretations of the Bard’s well-loved plays in the park – you might remember 2019’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream from the same director team.

You can catch the show daily from Wednesday 28 July to Saturday 31 July 2021 at 7.45pm (plus a 2pm matinee on Saturday). More details on the Mayhem website.
