If you’re counting down the days this December, here are some Wimbledon Christmas events you won’t want to miss …
Christmas in the Village is a lovely seasonal event, stamped with Wimbledon Village’s unique vibe. It takes place on Sunday 9 December from 10am, all around the village. Pop along for the unusual sight of Santa on horseback at 1.30pm – or visit him in his grotto from 10am.
A soon-to-be-revealed special guest will switch on the village Christmas lights at 4.40pm, followed by carols and mulled wine, courtesy of the Rose and Crown pub. There’ll also be storytelling, pony rides, and choir and ballet performances, not to mention the chance for some Christmas shopping in the village’s gorgeous range of shops. Read more here
One week earlier, on 2 December, the annual Winter Wonderland extravaganza takes over Wimbledon town centre. The roads will be pedestrianised to make way for market stalls, street entertainment, ice sculptures, children’s rides and more. This year’s even promises a snow globe family photobooth and there’ll be a brass band to really create atmosphere. The town’s lights will get their switch-on and the day will be rounded-off with fireworks at 5.30pm. Get more details here
Wimbledon’s eclectic Piazza craft market is a monthly feature in the town, selling clothing, art, fine food and homewares. During December you can visit every weekend, when more than 40 artisan traders will be selling exclusive gifts at a Christmas market. Look out for puddings, mince pies, cards, hampers and much more.
