Every summer we hope for good weather. After all, there are places to go to, people to meet, and events not to miss. For Wimbledon locals, The Wimbledon Guild Village Fair makes for a fun day out – but this outdoor event is so much better when the sun is shining.

But let’s not talk about the weather. Let’s talk about the fair itself – and why you should set a reminder for this event in your social calendar.

What is The Wimbledon Guild Village Fair?

This is an annual event held on Wimbledon Common. The event is run by The Wimbledon Guild, a local social welfare charity which works to tackle poverty and provide support for people of all ages through a professional advice and counselling service. Entry to the event is free, but it is a fund-raising enterprise for the Wimbledon Guild.

When and where is the event this year?

The event takes place this year on 17 June 2017, from 10:30am to 5pm, on Wimbledon Common Southside. You’ll find the entrance between The Green and Southside Common.

How busy does it get?

The event frequently draws more than 30,000 attendees each year. It’s a popular day-out, but Wimbledon Common is a big place, so if you’re planning to come with children in tow, there will be plenty of space for them to run about and enjoy themselves.

What types of activities can I expect?

From a jousting display (yes, with armour-clad knights, swords, and horses) to a dog show competition, there is much to see and do. The Knights of Middle England thrilled the crowds at last year’s event, and will likely do the same this year. If you’re partial to a spot of Medieval jousting (a superb spectator sport, we might add), then this is the event for you.

Dog owners and their canine companions can participate in the Waggy Wimbledon Dog Show, where there are opportunities to win prizes. And if you’re in the mood for a spot of activity, don’t miss the egg and spoon race.

What else is planned for the fair?

From the large variety of food stalls for shopping and sample tasting, to the adventure villages for children, this event is the perfect way to kick-start summer. If you’re a foodie, you’ll love the Wimbledon Guild Village Fair. Here you can literally ‘shop till you drop’. There will be two food villages, each offering a delicious range of both savoury and sweet food and refreshments, taking from British and international cuisines. There will also be a Farmers’ Market where visitors can buy the best local produce, from meats to cheese.

What about the stalls?

In addition to food stalls, there will be over 200 stalls selling everything from jewellery and accessories to homewares. There is also a raffle, where you have the potential to walk away with a fabulous prize.
