Tickets on sale for Wimbledon BookFest’s Sunset Festival

Wimbledon’s literary fans have been in for a treat this year. Not only was BookFest among the UK’s first live arts events to return after lockdown, but 2021 has seen not one but two festivals.

Wimbledon Common

Sunrise Festival kicked off the summer in June. Now, tickets are on sale for Sunset Festival, which runs from 15 to 19 September.

The five-day event feature 40+ talks, workshops and activities in reduced-capacity, open-sided marquees on Wimbledon Common. And there’s a diverse programme of memoir, fiction, poetry, current affairs, history, science and performing arts to look forward to.

Highlights include the ‘poet laureate of punk’ John Cooper Clarke looking back over an extraordinary career as a musician and performer.

BAFTA-winning stage and screen actor Miriam Margolyes OBE reads from her autobiography. And TV and radio presenter Anita Rani tells her story of growing up in Yorkshire.

Celebrity chef and restaurateur Rick Stein invites you to share his favourite recipes. And Labour MP Jess Phillips talks secrets of the House when she discusses her book, Everything You Really Need to Know About Politics.

Sebastian Faulks, author of multi-million-selling Birdsong, introduces his latest book, Snow Country. Or catch bestselling author of The Beekeeper of Aleppo, Christy Lefteri.

Rugby legend Brian Moore returns for an evening of conversation about the sport. And if lockdown saw you become a new dog parent, join TV’s Dogs Behaving Very Badly trainer Graeme Hall and dog walker Kate McDougall.

There are plenty of workshops and participation events too, including an embroidery masterclass, guided meditation, mindful pottery and a walk revealing Wimbledon’s historical links to slavery.

Not forgetting younger readers, don’t miss former Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell (best known for the Ottoline, Goth Girl and Edge Chronicles series).
