Merton Hall Rd, SW19
This good-rated primary school set in extensive grounds is regarded as one of the best in Wimbledon, London. Ofsted praise its “very happy” pupils and “exceptional outcomes in national tests”. There are plenty of extra-curricular activities including a choir and sports clubs. The school is three-form entry, taking 90 children in reception. The furthest distance of places offered in September 2024 was 438 metres in the first round, 496 in the second.
Havana Road, SW19
Outstanding school close to Southfields, which is one of the top performing primaries in the country – and accordingly, in high demand. According to Ofsted: “Pupils are delighted to be a part of this school” which has an “ambitious curriculum” and “high aspirations for pupils”. The furthest successful application in September 2024 was 454m from the school.
Dundonald Road, SW19
Located next the Dundonald Park and a few minutes’ walk from Wimbledon town centre. Dundonald is a two-form entry school for 60 pupils, and the further distance places were allocated last year was 518 metres. According to Oftsted: “Pupils achieve exceptionally well because of the almost consistent level of outstanding teaching, a view confirmed by many parents.”
Note: – these three Wimbledon primary schools are in an admissions priority area (APA), granting children within that area priority over those living outside it.
Lake Road, SW19
This Church of England primary school in Wimbledon Village is popular and high performing. Children were in the top 20% for reading, writing and maths in 2019, the last time national Sats were taken. The school is rated outstanding in every area by Ofsted, which describes its teaching and creative activities as “first class”. As a church school with separate admissions criteria, contact directly for furthest distances for its 60 places.
Edge Hill, Wimbledon SW19
Catholic prep school for boys and girls aged three to 11 – currently educating 71 girls and 234 boys. The school is non-selective. According to the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) “the quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent.”
Fees for the 2025/26 academic year start at £14,502 for Reception, £18,678 pa for Years 1-6, with leavers progressing to sought-after schools including King’s College School, The Tiffin School and Tiffin Girls’ School, and Ursuline High.
Camp Road, SW19
Girls prep school beside Wimbledon Common for 312 pupils, rated excellent by the ISI for pupils’ academic achievement and personal development. Offering girls’ education in Wimbledon since 1893, the Good Schools Guide praises The Study Prep’s “strong academics, teachers who radiate enthusiasm for their work and a highly effective approach to learning”. Expect fees of around £22,755 pa.
Watery Lane, SW20
Boys’ state comprehensive in Merton Park conservation area for 1,491 pupils. Founded in 1895, famous alumni include former prime minister John Major and author and illustrator Raymond Briggs. This Wimbledon secondary school was rated outstanding by Ofsted in 2024, with results attainment in 2025 above the English national average. The annual intake is 240, and furthest distance at which places were offered in 2024 was 2.4km.
Lake Road, SW19
Girls’ comprehensive in Wimbledon Village rated good by Ofsted with the mission of “educating successful women of the future”. Founded in 1924, the school pledges a balanced education, with a large provision of extra-curricular activities. Offering 240 places a year, and last year receiving 817 applications, the school made offers up to 2.6km last year.

Lake Road, SW19
Rutlish and Ricards Lodge state secondary schools in Wimbledon combine at year 12 to make RR6, a coeducational sixth form across both sites.
Mansel Road, SW19
Independent day school for girls from four to 18, promising inspiring lessons and a rich co-curricular programme within a warm and caring community. According to the Good Schools Guide, “pastoral care is outstanding and was mentioned by several parents as a deciding factor in choosing the school”. Alumni include journalists Samila Ahmed and Felicity Baker and novelist Sally Emerson. Wimbledon High is considered to be one of the best girls’ schools in the area, with fees starting at £28,857 pa.
Southside, Wimbledon Common, SW19
King’s College School is an independent day school and sixth form for boys aged 7-18, and girls at sixth form. Situated next to Wimbledon Common, this Wimbledon private school’s fees start at £28,022 for junior and £31,230 for senior school. Its impressive 2025 exam results include 90.6% of all GCSE exams graded 9/8 and 87.2% of sixth form results at A* or the IB equivalent.
Famous alumni include former TV doctors Chris and Xand Van Tulleken and singer Marcus Mumford.
Spencer Hill, SW19
Established in 1999, the only Accredited Montessori School in Wimbledon accepts children from 18 months to 5 years in mixed-age classrooms. Morning and afternoon sessions are enriched by music and movement sessions and access to a peaceful garden year-round.

Wimbledon Park Nursery is linked to Wimbledon Park Primary. Open to all children aged 3 to 4 years old, families with entitlement to just 15 hours benefit from priority admission. Further information on state nursery schools in Wimbledon is available via Merton Council.
Montague Road, SW19
Conveniently situated near South Wimbledon tube station, Excellent-rated Wimbledon Day Nursery accepts babies from 3 months to preschoolers up to 4 years 11 months. It operates across two settings, each with four rooms arranged by age group. Be warned, it traditionally boasts a long waiting list.
Coombe Lane West, KT2
Outstanding state junior school for ages seven to 11, with most children transferring from Coombe Hill Infant School. This school offers its own swimming pool, wildlife area, allotments and recording studio. Coombe Hill Juniors are also part founders of the Spark! School Book Award.
Burlington Road, New Malden, KT3
Rated Good by Ofsted, Burlington is four-form entry state junior school whose intake largely comes from Burlington Infant School. In their own words, the school has established “a history of success with many generations of children being well prepared, not only for secondary school, but for adult life.” The furthest distance offered after national coordination in 2023 was around 1 km.
Alexandra Road, KT2
Alexandra Primark School is a school for 465 primary and nursery aged children, situated near to Richmond Park. Having achieved an Outstanding rating at the most recent Ofsted inspection, Alexandra Primary School is a sought-after school in Kingston, with the furthest distance at offer date being 657 metres in 2023.
Grange Road, KT1
Bedelsford School provides education for pupils aged 2 to 19 holding holding an EHCP or Statement of Special Educational Needs. The school aims to foster a safe, empowering environment. Its capacity is increasing from 132 to 200 with a new extension. Bedelsford School renewed its Outstanding rating in the most recent Ofsted inspection in 2024.
Clarence Avenue, New Malden KT3
According to the Good Schools Guide, “parents would be bonkers to bust a gut securing a place anywhere else if successful here.” This girls’ state secondary is non-selective. It is rated outstanding by Ofsted, which says students’ achievement in Key Stages 3 and 4 is excellent. “The standards they are reaching overall in Year 11 are considerably higher than the national average.” The furthest offer for September 2024 was 2.6 km.
Queen Elizabeth Road, KT2 (Tiffin), Richmond Road, KT2 (Tiffin Girls)
These highly competitive selective state secondary schools take boys (Tiffin) or girls (Tiffin Girls’) aged 11 to 18. Both have high academic standards with 85% of all GCSE grades at 9-7, and 90% of all A Level grades at A*-B. In 2024, 630 applicants competed for 180 places at Tiffin Girls’ School, and 771 boys applied for Tiffin School’s 186 spots.
London Road, KT2
A leading coeducational independent day school founded in the 16th century, Kingston Grammar educates boys and girls aged 11 to 18. The school sets high academic standards, with almost 75% of GCSEs at grade 8 or 9 in 2025, and 75% of all A Levels at A*/A. 80% of leavers progress to Russell Group universities. The school also boasts over 70 extracurricular activities and a strong tradition of theatre and the arts.
Cambridge Road, SW20
Good-rated Hollymount Primary School and Nursery provides education for pupils aged 3 to 11. The school prioritises strong pastoral care, and its 445 pupils achieve above national and local authority averages in reading, writing and maths. The furthest offer in 2024 was 725 metres in the first round of admissions.
Cottenham Park Road, SW20
At St. Matthews C of E Primary School, pupils from different backgrounds are encouraged to extend learning outdoors by exploring the vegetable garden, playing fields and local parks. Pupils aged 3 to 11 attend St. Matthews C of E Primary School and Ofsted reports highlights the pupils’ supportive attitude and low bullying levels.
Bodnant Gardens, SW20
West Wimbledon Primary School is a one-form entry school for children aged 3 to 11. The school is a base for children with autism and communication needs, and has an inclusive approach to help children to achieve their full potential and enjoy their learning.
