Property & architecture: South Wimbledon property has many of the hallmarks you’ll find across Wimbledon: large period properties from the Edwardian and Victorian eras, many of which come equipped with bay windows, high ceilings, large fireplaces and other decorative features. That said, you can find a few new-build townhouses and numerous larger properties divided into flats.

A notable development project enhancing the area is the regeneration of the Merton High Street, which aims to introduce new retail spaces, improved public amenities, and enhanced green spaces.

Average prices: The house prices in South Wimbledon vary greatly, as the latest figures show. For example, the average house price across this last year was £727k, though semis in the area sold for a much higher average of £1.31m. On the other hand, flats went for a much more affordable figure of approximately £429k, and terraced homes reached £916K. It’s worth noting that prices have risen 3% since 2021, and have remained more stable than other parts of London where prices have dropped significantly.

Rental Market: The rental market in South Wimbledon remains robust, especially for professionals and families. As of 2024, the average rental price for a one-bedroom apartment is roughly £1,650 per month, while a two-bedroom apartment may rent for around £1,950 per month. Larger properties, such as three-bedroom houses, can command rents of about £2,950 per month or more.

In this area, you’ll find the expanses of the Wimbledon Quarter Mall (with over 65 shops), while the surrounding streets contain many high street shops like TK Maxx, Waterstones, Pret and more. Similarly, there is  a large range of high quality pubs and restaurants that line this stretch of road.

There are several green spaces nearby to enjoy, including Haydon’s Road Recreation Ground and the South Park Gardens. The first is a large, unspoilt field which is perfect for sports or having a picnic (with a small play area for kids as well). On the other hand, the South Park Gardens are a more carefully manicured space, with a range of attractive flowers, plants and shaped beds – as well as spaces to sit down and relax. Of course, you’re not too far away from the Morden Hall Park to the south, as well as Wandle Meadow Nature Park to the East. The area is primarily residential, with a small high street along Merton Road featuring local shops, cafes, and pubs. Its proximity to the larger centres of Wimbledon and Morden provides residents with easy access to a wider range of amenities and entertainment options.
